OUR SUN MAY HAVE A BROTHER: Sweet Influences from Sirius
A new and important book by Walther Cruttenden called LOST STAR OF MYTH & TIME
Reviewed by Byron LeBeau
[Special note: This will not be a technical review of the astronomical dynamics of a binary star system; however, if you find the below information about Cruttenden’s book interesting, he has also put out a DVD called, THE GREAT YEAR which goes into detail about the 24,000 year cycle of Sirius interacting with our own sun. It is narrated by James Earl Jones, and has very good graphics in its 46 minute presentation. It also explains how the “precession of the equinox” was used to show the progression of the stars across the sky over thousands of years, and mark the rise and fall of the great ages by the ancients. As Graham Hancock had indicated on the jacket of the book: ””If Walter Cruttenden is right, as I very much suspect he is, then he has found the key to the mystery of the ages.”
The below highlights some of the gems that may lead the way for your own understanding of this potentially important key. Because of the difficulty in presenting the technicalities and the author’s enrichment (via the many myths,) nothing will replace the actual reading of the book. For more information, visit

Every once in a blue moon a book comes along (usually gifted to me as this one was) where, after finishing it I say: Aha! Now I have the missing piece of my many-years’ research! Such a book is “LOST STAR…” since it seems to put the missing pieces of the galactic puzzle in place ostensibly!
This is a book about our potential binary star, Sirius – you know the star that shines so brightly in our night sky. Mr. Cruttenden (amateur archeo-astronomer and author of the binary theory of precession,) had done what few authors have done to me over many years of research: Sucked me into devouring even the most minute portions of technicalities to understand this fascinating – yet daunting – field of endeavor. And why? Because if he is correct in his measured surmise, we all would be wise to re-evaluate at least the last 13,000 years or so of our Earth’s history, which, in turn, may have a profound effect on how the next 10,500 ‘’historical’’ years may indeed play out!
If this is all Greek to you, then let’s take this journey one step at a “processional” time, including the definiton of the word “precession,” which may, to many, be a confusing concept.
THE THESIS IN SHORT
The author contends the following (and will back up his ideas by using many cross-disciplinary sources, and the scholars who have contributed to those sources of knowledge): Our very own son SOL is in at least a binary orbit with the star Sirius, which itself has its own binary star (Sirius B.)
Lest one suspect that this is going to be a NEW AGE TREATISE, the author uses THE HOLY BIBLE as one of the connecting dots to support his overall thesis. In chapter two he quotes Ecclesiastes 3:1. “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” (This citation will begin to take on some meaning and shape, when we discuss the four ages and how they seem to repeat cyclically. And speaking of these ages, Cruttenden quotes the Book of Daniel (2:31-45) in describing to Nebuchadnezzar what the king’s dream meant…a dream that involved these same four ages, from the gold to the silver to the bronze to the iron (mixed with clay.) The dream was so profound and accurate, according to the king, that he made Daniel in charge of his kingdom, while those who could not interpret the dream he killed. (Cf. text for the details of this famous dream, and how it may fit in with the author’s overall theme (52-58.)
SO HOW DOES THIS BIBLICAL STORY SUPPORT THE BINARY STAR THEORY?
According to the forthcoming information, our sun is in a binary relationship with the star Sirius, and it takes 24,000 years to complete one cycle, a cycle that is broken up into four ages from gold to silver to bronze down to iron, and then rising upward from iron to bronze to silver until once again it repeats ‘’THE GOLDEN AGE!’’
On page 48 of this book, the author actually breaks down the periods of these ages into specific 24,000 year (ascending & descending) CYCLES, using Vedic terminology:
Descending Yoga
Satya-Golden Age-4800 years from 11,501 BC to 6701 BC
Treta-Silver-3600 Years-from 6701 BC to 3101 BC
Dwapara-Bronze Age-2400 Years from 3101 BC TO 701 BC
Kali-Iron Age-1200 Years from 701 BC to AD 499
Ascending Yuga
Kali-Iron Age-1200 Years from AD 499 to AD 1699
Dwapara-Bronze Age-2400 Years from AD 1699 to AD 4099
Treta-Silver Age-3600 Years from AD 4099 to AD 7699
Satya-Golden Age-4800 Years from AD 7699 to AD 12,499
{{Note: It was important to go through this calendar year exercise, since it bears on our historical story of the rise and fall of mankind throughout the ages, as will be specified in our subsequent review.}}
For instance, the author mentions on page 52 that the period around AD 500 was “the darkest part of the Kali Yuga of the whole cycle of 24,000 years” and indeed, AD 500 reflected the world at a low point, the civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece & Rome having collapsed some time before. Even China & Arabia, which held up better, were at their relative low points. HOW COME?
As the author states in the INTRODUCTION, throughout this 24,000 year period, the Earth is carried through “a magnetic or electromagnetic (EM) field of another star, (Sirius) similar to but different from the EM spectrum of our own Sun, causing subtle changes in human consciousness over long sweeps of time…where at times… in the cycle human development and consciousness are positively affected, achieving an almost enlightened state; THE GOLDEN AGE at other times they (the ages) are in decline, growing dense and barbaric – but inevitably awakening again with the next arc of celestial motion (xxii.)
Cruttenden explains in the text of the book that it is the EM effect from the closeness of Sirius during the “GOLDEN AGE” periods that last ended in 6701 BC, and will not return till 7699 AD, that caused man to live in harmony (even with animals) amassing the highest of technical advances blended with supreme spiritual acumen; this meant being able to build magnificent megalithic monuments in accord with the natural rhythms of the universe, since man was tuned into this EM energy during these august times, where his brain was working at full capacity in all areas of development. Contrariwise, during the darkest periods, man’s brain only works at about 25% capacity (according to the Ancients,) being more inclined to the base and degenerate, again, as witnessed around 500 AD.) {{The author does reference current thinking that man only seems to use no more than 10% of his brain capacity, but then again, we seem to have been ostensibly woefully inaccurate about so many things already, this may just be another ignorant misstatement in the historical annals of mankind.}}
IF EM EFFECT OF A PASSING STAR CAN CAUSE BOTH BOOSTS AND DECLINES IN MAN’S ACTIVITIES IN WAVES OR CYCLES, WHAT indications ARE THERE THAT WOULD SUBSTANTIATE THIS, AS OPPOSED TO THE never proven DARWINIAN THEORY OF LINEAR EVOLUTION?
Throughout the book, the author offers many indications that would substantiate this:
1) Irrefutable evidence of sophisticated astronomy, mathematics, and other high sciences incorporated into the Great Pyramid, both aligned to magnetic north, and showing that it used the golden mean (1.618) which is a famous ratio in art and architecture; Robert Bauval (co-author of many books on the pyramids) noticed that the three main pyramids on the Giza plateau were a mirror image of the three belt stars in the constellation Orion. The shafts in the King’s and Queen’s chambers also represent stellar alignments. Cruttenden thinks that “embedding them in a massive structure comprised of millions of stones – some up to seventy tons – and doing it all without harder-than-stone tools or instruments or math, or even wheels” is pretty amazing stuff for a primitive culture. (26) {{If you add in the possibility that the building of the Great Pyramid could not even have been done around 2500 BC, BUT PROBABLY MUCH EARLIER (like 10,500 BC,) and that it has never been surpassed or even equaled in its building of its angle of ascension, then this would add credence to the theory that man has declined from the golden age ending in 6799 BC, the likes of which we will not see again until about 7699 AD, as per the above-cited calculations.}}
2) The civilization of India may be the oldest civilization in the world, and the oldest of their sacred texts, the Rig Veda, may be about 12,000 years old, according to David Frawley, B.G. Siddarth, and a number of other scholars. Siddarth staes that the Rig Veda mentions the ‘Precession of the Equinox’ (defined below) and its effects, as well as other planetary movements, in considerable detail; it also contains advanced and modern concepts as the heliocentric theory, something that the Western world was still struggling to understand thousands of years later (46.)
3) Both the Rig Veda and the Persian books of the Avesta (the sacred books of the Zoroastrians) both spoke of a 24,000 year cycle, having common ancestral roots that span the geographical distance from ancient Persia to India (47.)
4) According to Paramahansa Yogananda (author of Autobiography of a Yogi,) Manu was the last ruler in the Golden age; this 24,000 year period was not of an equal duration, but in a 4,3,2,1 ratio, the highest or golden age being of the longest duration. Thus the ages had durations of 4800, 3600, 2400 and 1200 years in descending order, and then rising again from the lowest Iron Age (Kali Yuga) back again to the Golden age. {{BTW:Yogananda’s guru, Sri Yukteswar, wrote extensively about the Yuga Cycle and its connection to the Precession of the Equinox in his 1894 book, The Holy Science, and incredibly showing that ANOTHER STAR was the binary star of our sun!!! (50) How did he know this?}}
5) The noted Egyptologist R.A. Schwaller de Lubitz, in the 1940s commented extensively on the esoteric knowledge of ancestral Egypt and its subsequent decline. (59) {{This information was investigated and backed up by John A. West in his own book, Serpent in the Sky, which became the award-winning TV documentary hosted by Charlton Heston, “The Mystery of the Sphinx,” back in the mid-1990s.}}
6) The Hopis speak of an advanced higher ages in the past, where men lived in harmony. With each subsequent age Sotuknang the Creator would destroy and rebuild the world. Each incarnation of the world would have slightly less harmony than the one before its humanity became more materialistic. The Hopi creator stories speak of the first age as though it were a paradise {{golden age?}}. …Through the incarnations of the world this paradise was lost, slowly over time, until Sotuknang tells the Hopi at the beginning of the Fourth World, “It is not all beautiful and easy like the previous ones.” (67) ((Incidentally, this Hopi connection was also cited by Paul Laviolette in his intriguing work about the GALACTIC CENTER, which is incorporated in the below web page:
http://inspectorblebeau.pbwiki.com/COSMOLOGY%20THE%20BIBLE%20AND%20WORLD%20MYTHS
7) In order for a culture to understand precession and attendant celestial motions well enough to use them as long term systems of time, they must have been observed for a very long period before that…and according to this author, the sheer number of ancient stories about precession and the ages indicates the Ancients must have understood that precession marks the time and seasons of the Great Year (89-90.) {{This concept cannot be stressed too often, since it underlines & reflects Cruttenden’s entire thesis of very long range series of cultures, rising & falling in the Earth’s oblique and mysterious true history, in my opinion; also, see my FINAL COMMENTS for yet another view of this.}}
8) Numerous citations about incredibly old anomalous artifacts found, one registered as being found in strata that is reputed to be 600 million years old, {{as reported by Michael Cremo in his book, Forbidden Archeology,}} regarding the metal vessel or pot (with silver content) found in Dorchester, MA., also punctuates the point just made above (246.) {{Of course, if future research finds that these anomalous artifacts do indeed represent cultures of civilizations far in the past, it would lend credence to Cruttenden’s thesis of this 24,000 year continuous and ongoing cycle from high to low and low to high ages. There are many more references in Cremo’s book, co-authored by Richard Thompson, that strain credulity when it comes to what our present “bronze age specialists” really know, or do not want to deal with, since the ages of sophisticated items do not, frankly, match our linear way of thinking on history.}}
PRECESSION OF THE EQUINOX DEFINED:
Equinox: When the Earth’s axis is neither leaning toward the sun nor away, so that the night and day are of equal length.
Precession: A backward procession or movement
Zodiac: the twelve ancient constellations that lie along the ecliptic (the sun’s apparent path through the sky.)
The Procession of the Equinox, then, is the slow backward movement of the equinox against the background of the constellations of the zodiac.
ELLIPTICAL STAR vs. PLANET
There has been much ink spilled, especially by Zecharia Sitchin, that the large elliptical object which affects our Earth (and this theory projects to about 3600 years, not 24,000,) is a planet well outside of Pluto that orbits elliptically between Mars and Jupiter. According to Sitchin, this planet was known as ‘Nibiru,’ and was documented by Sitchin’s Sumerian translations, especially in his TWELFTH PLANET book, as part of his EARTH CHRONICLES’ series. Cruttenden, however, makes a different group of observations, starting on pages 92 & 93 of his own text.
Other civilizations, including the Arabic, Sumerian, Mithraic & Vedic traditions all made reference to another STAR that influenced our Sun and “drove precession.” It has been called Nibiru, Indra, Mithras, etc., but has been little understood or acknowledged in modern times. (92) The author points out that Sitchin’s contention that this elliptical object (Nibiru) was a planet does not make sense to Cruttenden. His thinking is as follows concerning Nibiru as planet: “…if such an object did exist in our solar system (now estimated to be 4.6 billion years old) most astronomers agree it would have either crashed into another planet or moon billion of years ago or have been ejected…(so Sitchin’s)…astronomical theory does not fit with basic physical astronomy, and his interpretation of some celestial worlds have been challenged by well-regulated scholars.” (93)
He cites one “regulated scholar” as Michael Heiser (with degrees in ancient history and lost languages, as well as a Ph.D. in the Hebrew Bible and Ancient Semetic Languages. Heiser came to the conclusion (using the same data as Sitchin,) and stated that Nibiru is ‘’always’’ that of a “star,” and does not represent a “planet.” His work is thorough and compelling. (93)
{{I personally have looked into the differences between Sitchin & Heiser, and the results are in accord with Walter Cruttenden, as reflected in the below link, where you must scroll down to the second article after "REMEMBRANCES.":}}
http://www.alienlovebite.com/byron11.htm#BEHIND%20THE%20FACADE
Cruttenden also cites the author, German Sumerologist B. Landsberger, who came to the same conclusion (as Heiser,) that it is indeed a star: Marduk’s star. (93 with footnote to the author’s work also cited from Heiser’s paper, “The Myth of a Sumerian 12th Planet; @2004; pp.15.)
What makes these references so important is that Heiser noted that Landsberger’s reference to Nibiru as that star which “shall establish the roads of the stars in heaven,” as possibly being the Pole Star, (according to Cruttenden) could be shown to just as easily be a binary star which Cruttenden shows to be true later in the book. Cruttenden goes on to state that a binary star “would also show a motion different from all other stars in the sky, and indeed appear to “cross” the “stars of heaven,” as suggested in the Sumerian tablets (93.) In short, if a binary companion to the Sun were known to the Sumerians, then it would fit the Nibiru description quite accurately and seem to move independent of the apparent backward precessional motion of the rest of the stars. It would represent that “crossing point,” meaning Nibiru could be the Sun’s companion star, the “driver” of precession.
OTHER TIDBITS AND HIDDEN GEMS REGARDING THE LOST STAR
There is no sense beating a dead horse (the binary star theory,) and if you read the book by Cruttenden, you will see ample evidence presented in one form or another. I will simply draw your attention to some GEMS I came across, starting in chapter three of this nine chapter book.
I opened up the review with comments about a Biblical reference to the Book of Daniel, and how it may have been a possible code to the four ages. The Pleiades also seems to come up in the Bible, as well as many other pre-Dark Age cultures ((and the UFO/alien abduction literature too, a la the Billy Meier case.)) In any event, in the KJV (Job 38:31) it states, “Canst thou bind the sweet influence of the Pleiades.” The author hints at a possible understanding of the Biblical writer with the influence of certain stars upon our Earth, a concept that would be anathema to Newtonian physics, but not to Vedic scholars (like Sri Yukteswar as mentioned before.) (99-100) As the author notes, if we are in an ascending age, there would be those amongst us who would be keenly aware of the total reality of a binary dynamic, that most of us may still be blissfully ignorant of, and the author cautions us to keep an open mind in this area. {{After all, our brains are only between 25 to 49% capacity in Bronze, and that goes for only a few at a painfully slow rate of ascension.}}
The author explains on page 107 that binary stars do not orbit each other, but rather orbit a common center of mass, so they are very close for a longer time than they are apart from one another. [This is the reason for the 4-3-2-1- ratio as stated before, where the Golden Age is much longer in length (thank God) than the dark Iron Age.
He points out that at the Binary Research Institute (where Cruttenden is Executive Director of,) that lunar rotation equations do not support lunisolar theory, nor do the Earth’s motion relative to the Perseids meteor shower support the theory. This is all technical jargon to support the notion that precession is a result of something other than local forces. (Cf. text, pp.108-109 for more details on this type of tidbit, on the section, 'Looking with New Eyes.')
It has now been estimated by NASA, that more than 80% of all stars may be part of a binary or multiple star relationship. (111) {{The odds of this ‘crazy’ theory seem to be improving, methinks!}}
If the lunisolar theory is correct, and the Earth does not go around the Sun 360 degrees, then the aforementioned Perseid meteor shower should slip one calenday day in every seventy-two years, meaning it should have moved almost six days since the Gregorian Calendar Reform in 1582. BUT IT HASN’T! (120)
Without getting too technical (which I swore not to do,) one of the most impressive arguments of a binary star sytem between our Sun & Sirius is the question of the Sun’s angular momentum…and I am sure that if you are like me, you will be saying to yourself: SO WHAT?!? If you were to read the argument that Cruttenden makes, the proper relationship of the Sun’s angular momentum (which is all but mysteriously absent in the lunisolar theory) falls neatly into place within the scope of the binary sun theory. (Consult the argument for this in the text, pp. 127-131; it is very impressive!)
Sirius. 8.6 light years away, is not only the brightest star in the sky, but it is thought to be moving toward us at an estimated 12 miles per second. Given the vast amount of myth and folklore about this star system, especially in the Egyptian & Sumerian cultures, {{not to mention the incredible understanding of both Sirius A & its smaller binary companion, Sirius B as per the Dogon tribe of NW Africa who seemed to know all about these intricate orbits hundreds of years ago, if not longer,}} it should be considered a likely candidate for the Sun’s primary companion star, or so the author suggests (159.) Incidentally, the details of the Dogon tribe mystery are aired out, starting on page 160, which adds an extra dimension to this all-too-mysterious already binary star that the Egyptians seemed to have a fascination for, who themselves ensconced it in one of the pointing shafts of the Great Pyramid! [WHY?]
Both the Dogon & Sumerians believed that Sirius was the determiner of time and the calendar. If Sirius were indeed our companion star (gravitationally bound to our Sun) it would move differently than all other stars and would literally determine a fundamental form of time and synchronization with the calendar…{{and perhaps the reason why the Egyptians were “keeping an eye on it!}}
Both the Egyptians & Sumerians describe Sirius as red in color; however, all of these references were ‘’before’’ AD 500. The author suggests that if you look up in the night sky now, the same star looks blue. Anyone who is familiar with the “Doppler effect” knows that lights moving away from us look reddish, while when they are moving toward us, they appear bluish. Since Cruttenden’s thesis revolves around the concept that Sirius is heading toward us as we ascend into the now Bronze Age, this would seem to lend some support to the author’s contention (163.)
Lastly, the author had pointed out that we can actually see the star Sirius from the southern shaft of the upper chamber of the Great Pyramid; however, we should not see any given star more than 100 years since the shaft is too narrow to point to more that one or two degrees of sky at any given point in history—so, out of 45 or 50 centuries since this magnificent monument was built, why would the Egyptians decide to position their pyramid to point at their Isis (Sirius) in our lifetime? According to the author, this would only make sense if Sirius had a different path relative to the rest of the stars that would keep it in the same relative space of arc as our own Sun and Earth move along the elliptic. (168-169)
{{FINAL PHILOSOPHICLA RUMINATIONS by LeBeau}}
I am presenting this eclectic book review since something within me resonates with the present work of this author, so we may possibly see how a book like the Bible may chime-in with other Ancient texts, almost as if there is a hidden code embedded in all world cultures – ‘’and not just a narrow few.’’ I would just like to make one observation, based on my recent research with the non-canonical Book of Enoch. On page 156 of Walter Cruttenden’s book, the author wonders out loud how it would be conceivable for our Ancient brethren to be aware of this binary dynamic, the 24,000 year cycle, and for more than one culture to have similar ideas about this since it would take oh so long to make any surmise until several long cycles had been completed, in the very least?!? Maybe they were simply told of certain astronomical things, as seems to be the case with the Dogon tribe of NW Africa. Maybe there is more going on in our Earth’s dim history than even our present author wishes to discuss openly.
In the Book of Enoch, there are three revealing verses in chapter eight, as translated by Richard Laurence, LL.D., concerning “fallen angel” personalities and their talents:
" Barkayal taught the observers (astrologers) of the stars. (v.5)
"’ Tamiel taught astronomy; (v.7)
" And Asaradel taught the motion of the moon."
(v.8)
Just like so many other coincidental things discussed about this book as per “THE BITE OF THE SERPENT” series, located at:
http://inspectorblebeau.pbwiki.com/THE%20BITE%20OF%20THE%20SERPENT%20SECTION%20SERIES
maybe by the time we have ascended into the GOLDEN AGE, we will be able to see things from a higher perspective still, understanding all of the influences that have been players in our collective development....

FURTHER READING & LISTENING about “LOST STAR…” theories contained within the essay, “OUR SUN MAY HAVE A BROTHER.”
If you go to Walter Cruttenden’s website, www.loststarbook.com you will see an interview with John Major Jentkins (on PAST SHOWS section,) where John both generally supports the LOST STAR thesis, as well as supplements it with other details….
If you go to ATLANTIS RISING magazine [#59,] (Sept./Oct 2006 issue,) there is also a caveat by the same above author (Jenkins) in an article called, PARSING THE PRECESSIONAL PUZZLE where John goes into some alternate details about the ideas of Sri Yukteswar (“THE HOLY SCIENCE”) that was quoted in Cruttenden’s book, “LOST STAR….” The thrust of Jenkins is to provide a cautionary note as to the time frames that Sri Yukteswar outlined in reference to the “Kali Yuga” periods, (which Yukteswar has ending in A.D. 1699,) noting that the brutality of the 20th century (and even the beginning of the 21st century,) contained brutality & debaucheries that “exceed by far anything that came in the centuries before…” (63) [that implies to me we may still be in the end period of the “DARK AGES”, and not necessarily ascending into the BRONZE AGE.]
Secondly, Jenkins makes the point that the ‘Kali Yuga’ ends “when spiritual darkness has maximized in a global context, whereas in A.D. 500 there was no global context. (63)
I believe these are important considerations as we try to come to grips with the understanding of Cruttenden’s “LOST STAR…” thesis; after all, does not the fault reside in ourselves, as opposed to our stars [?] as penned by Shakespeare so long ago! Do we not have to individually cooperate with the higher consciousness (which may try to help us by some ‘EM’ effect, {{like a form of universal grace?}} but it is up to us to say ‘Yes’ or ‘No,’ – regardless of the outside bombardment! From a spiritual context, St. Paul (in the ninth chapter of the epistle of Romans,) had something profound to say about just this type of cooperation.
