INHERENTLY WIND: A DVD that explains how HOLLYWOOD misrepresented ‘The Scopes Trial’ in the classic movie, INHERIT THE WIND.

THE FOCUS OF THIS REVIEW

Dr. David Menton who earned a Ph.D. in cell biology from Brown University, and has lectured throughout the United States & Canada, has presented quite a good re-evaluation of ‘The Scopes Trial’ (THE MONKEY TRIAL) through the distorted eyes of Hollywood. In this DVD presentation (which was filmed as a lecture) but had other TVs set up in order to view clips from the movie, INHERIT THE WIND, which, of course starred Spencer Tracy as the real-life criminal lawyer, Clarence Darrow (but known as Henry Drummond in the movie in order to thinly veil the Hollywood distortions of the real-life trial of John Scopes.  Fredrick March played the role of the real life William Jennings Bryan, who was also a lawyer, but was known more for running for President of the U.S. on three separate occasions.  His name in the 1960 movie was Matthew Harrison Brady.  Dick York played John Scopes (known as Bert Cates) and the talented dancer – Gene Kelly played the journalist H. L. Menken ((called E. K. Hornbeck in the same movie.)

Dr. Menton goes through the trial (the actual testimony) and then shows how the Hollywood movie actually twists all the facts of that trial around nearly 180 degrees…to make it look like these Tennessee Christians were out to get John Scopes (as a substitute teacher) in a WITCHHUNT because (at least in the movie version) was pushing evolution on his students. [This is 1925, and the law in many states, including Tennessee, revolved around THE BUTLER ACT, which, in effect stated that students should only be exposed to the Bible when it came to the creation of Man.  As Doctor Menton points out though, John Scopes was actually liked by the people in this town of Tennessee, and he did a good job coaching football, and his “teaching” of evolution was not really an issue in the real life trial, since his teaching of “biology” was really only a two-week stint as a substitute teacher while the kids were getting ready for finals – so – much ado about nothing!]

Today, of course, we actually have seen the law turn 180 degrees so that educators may only teach the theory of evolution as the only viable option of how man came to be.

Dr. Menton juxtaposes the testimony of the REAL trial with the distortions presented by Hollywood, pointing out that the “ACLU” (which was only alluded to and is reflective of  “THE AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION”) was at the bottom of trying to fuel opposition to the CREATIONISTS’ VIEW IN THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM.

Menton clearly shows that Hollywood’s posture was to use film propaganda to advance the cause of massaging the public into believing that evolution was the way man came to be, but, as was pointed out by Professor Menton, side-stepped many issues that would have been embarrassing to its cause when they presented the 1960 movie, like what the real professors of scientific disciplines thought when it came to the “facts” of evolution.

The DVD made it clear that neither Darrow nor Bryan were portrayed in their proper light since it was the agenda of Hollywood to make March (as Brayan) look like a pompous glutton…and Tracy (as Darrow) to look like the wise and sagacious criminal lawyer…even though he was an agnostic/atheist in both real life and the movie; when I watched the movie, I could not help myself from feeling (subliminally) that anything Tracy stood for was inherently the truth…when it was INHERENTLY WIND! But like all propaganda: THINGS ARE NOT WHAT THEY SEEM, either in the movies or real life for that matter!

This DVD is definitely worth viewing, and is only the first step in understanding the REAL MATRIX being presented to us today: THAT EVOLUTION IS NOT TO BE QUESTIONED – despite the many flaws in its thesis.  Yet Creation Ministries through the above-cited website does a remarkable job in showing SUCH HOLES!  If you go to “FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS” you will see a litany of subjects that need to be digested in order for you to realize just how YOU’VE BEEN HAD [!] when it comes to the age of the universe and especially how Mankind came to be!  [AN EYE-OPENER to be sure!]
