DIAMONDS A CHRISTIAN'S BEST FRIEND
[Review of DVD THOUSANDS NOT BILLIONS, by Byron LeBeau]
I am not trying to be cute! This is not exactly a pun on an old phrase, but rather a "BOMBSHELL" that may once and for all sound the death-knell to evolutionary theory...FOR 'WHOM' THE BELL TOLLS.
The Institute for Creation Research (ICR) found at WWW.ICR.ORG presents in this very professionally produced DVD documentary via interview, a convincing look at the YOUNG EARTH thesis - with TEETH! In just 48 minutes, seven doctors in various disciplines that range from geologists, to physicists, to theoretical nuclear physicists, to geo-physicists, to atmospheric scientists and even a Hebrew scholar, endeavor ~~ via a nine year study ending in 2005, to dismantle the notion that we live on an old earth in an old universe - when the Holy Bible suggests just the opposite.
The (partly) docudrama starts with a scene of a boy going away to college, and his father giving him a caveat to be careful - and not to blindly accept everything that he is going to be taught; sure enough, he runs into confusion as his geology teacher is trying to convince him that through "radio isotope dating, that the earth is billions of years old. Luckily Sean is helped by a friend - Nate - who sets him straight about the YOUNG UNIVERSE ideas, and suggests he check it out for himself.
Without going into all the elegant data surrounding things like the rates of nuclear decay in various isotopes, how isotopes go from unstable to stable, the importance of "diabas sills," or the complications of accelerated decay, allow me to focus on just two key linchpins: "DIAMONDS" (heretofore a girl's best friend) & ZIRCONS - Dr. Russell Humphreys' "best" friend, since the latter helped him understand about 'helium fusion' and how zircons (if we lived on an old earth) should be totally devoid of helium - BUT THEY ARE NOT! [When you view the DVD, you will see how this shows - quite clearly - that the earth can be no more than 6000 years old (+ or - 2000.)
BUT what was found within DIAMONDS was the "bombshell" that really excited Dr. John Baumgardner (the geo-physicist of the bunch,) since he stated quite clearly that carbon-14 (C-14) ~~ if we lived on a billion-year-old-earth, ~~ should NOT be found within diamonds, since the half life of C-14 is about 5700 years, and since diamonds are found deep in the earth (about 100 miles down and tightly compressed,) should have released ALL of their C-14, but every sample that Dr. Baumgardner said they found throughout all of Africa (both deep down & on the surface) all contained C-14, implying that they could not be older that the 6000 year mark (+ or - 2000.) C-14 was also found all over the place, regardless of what layer they looked in, or what fossils they were found in, which reflected that these same fossils lived all around the same relative time - and certainly not millions of years apart.
The Hebrew scholar (Dr. Steve Boyd,) was brought in to confirm that the part of the Bible that was speaking in a narrative form (literally) was distinct from the poetic portions of the Bible, and by the use of statistics (and verb usage,) was able to show that the part of the Bible, namely Genesis 1:1 to 2:3 (the part that talked about creation by God) was 'narrative' - not poetic ~~ therefore literal!
Needless to say, Sean (having been helped by his friend Nate, and being armed with this overwhelming data, was no longer confused about his faith in the Holy Bible, and was happy again as he went on college break and home to his family where his dad was happily awaiting him to see what nuggets of wisdom Sean had discovered!
This is a priceless gem. It does not mean that the nay-Sayers of Biblical truth will just fold up their collective tents and go away. There still are {T}ss to cross and {I}ss to dot, as is pointed out by Dr. Larry Vardiman [Atmospheric scientist] in the "BONUS FEATURES' section," but these seven Christian scientists have (in my opinion) given a good account of themselves in showing that the earth is, in fact, thousands and not billions of years old.

THE CASE for a CREATOR
[A Journalist Investigates Scientific Evidence That Points Toward God]
The journalist is Lee Strobel who happens also to be the author of The CASE FOR CHRIST, (which itself is a convincing legal series of "exhibits" that gradually builds the case for the historicity of Jesus.
In the DVD under discussion, Stroebel narrates this very impressive series of arguments (including stunning color graphics and scenery,) that also builds a convincing case for an intelligent creator vs. the blind chance argument of evolutionists. It makes for a good follow-up to the DVD "THOUSANDS not BILLIONS."
The evidence revolves around a simple statement by Jonathan Wells who explores the "negative evidence" of the so-called 'Cambrian Explosion!' This is a period in Earth's history when literally 1000s of species appeared all of a sudden without any "evolutionary" explanation - since as will be proven in this film...THERE ISN'T ANY!
In the segment called Cosmology where the study of the universe is nothing but a puzzle to evolutionists (or at least ridiculous postulations without foundation,) Alan Sandage states, "We cannot understand the universe in any particular way without the supernatural."
[Award-winning journalist for the Chicago Tribune, Lee Strobel adds (as an aside) that it almost sounds like the first chapter of Genesis.]
An impressive part of the documentary occurs when astro-biologist Guillermo Gonzalez looks into the 20 points that encompass complex life, and finds that life on Earth would be virtually impossible unless an intelligent cause was involved; the odds of such life (as ours) arising - by chance - would be an astounding one divided by ten to the minus 15th power...so that even another planet like ours would be unlikely!
God's fingerprints are all over where the Earth was placed, how it was placed, and the elements that were placed within it - oh - and with just the right mix of gravitational & EM forces, not to mention the necessity of the strong & weak nuclear forces to boot! If any of these things were changed just a little bit, life on our planet would not exist.
The bio-chemist, Michael Behe, brings up the rear with the astounding information about "irreducible complexity," using the bacterial flagellum as an astounding example, since it is made up of 40 intricate parts, any one of which - if not present and working instantaneously, would not work at all...which flies in the face of evolutionary Darwinism which needs millions of years of BLIND CHANCE to work, if it could work at all da-da-da!
